Think Luck Has Passed You By? My Midlife Moment with Oprah Winfrey May Change Your Mind.

Oprah Winfrey says, “Luck is preparation meeting the moment of opportunity,”   At 54, my “luck” arrived.

The Luck: A gift to see Oprah filming her podcast. On a show topic I care deeply about, featuring Jean Twenge, the author of “Generations,” a favorite book and impetus to start “The Fifty Factor.” A moment with Oprah Winfrey.

The Preparation: 54 years in the making. 

The Opportunity: Oprah’s producers emailing audience members to share their generational perspectives.  

The Fifty Factor: Young me wouldn’t have answered the email, fearing rejection. Midlife me? Has confidence, wisdom, and the good sense to recognize that this moment was THE MOMENT! I reply. The producer calls – they like my perspective.

The Amazing Outcome:

Oprah: “Gen X, I hear Gen X feels like they’re the ignored middle children. What do you want to say about that, Kim?”

Kim: “I’m Gen X, and we’re the forgotten generation.”
